The Information Product Business

The Information Product Business

What is a digital product

From Shopify.com

  • A digital product is an intangible asset or piece of media that can be sold and distributed repeatedly online without the need to replenish inventory. These products often come in the form of downloadable or streamable digital files, such as MP3s, PDFs, videos, plug-ins, and templates.

So that is the definition of a digital product.

So what is the information product business?

An information product is a product that revolves around providing information. That means something like a book, a podcast or a course.

An eBook is informational because you’re learning from it and it’s digital because it only exists on a file on your hard drive. Creating and selling a digital product just so happens to be one of the most popular and most effective business models that there is in this digital age.

Why is it so Popular to sell?

The reason for its popularity is that it offers incredible Return On Investment or ROI and it is highly versatile.

When you create and sell a digital product, you are providing value in the form of the information contained therein. This is what allows you to charge money for your product and it’s what makes it desirable for your audience. At the same time though, a digital product has very little overhead cost.

Is it popular with buyers?

Yes it is. People like to access anything they buy quickly, easily and at any time of the day or night. This feeds into the instant gratification culture which has grown over the last few years. No one wants to wait for anything.digital products

The Pandemic has increased online use exponentially and with so many people at home, with spare time, the digital product business has grown too.

How much will it cost?

There may be some initial investment involved in the creation of your product or products as you may need to outsource the process and pay someone to create it for you.

Once it is done you’ll then be able to sell as many copies as you like without it costing you a single thing. There’s no cost associated with storage, there’s no delivery and there are no materials.

You can always create your own digital products of course.

‘COGS’ or ‘Cost Of Goods Sold’

With a high value and no overheads then, a digital product can provide almost 100% profit on each sale. What’s more, is that it’s incredibly versatile and simple to create and sell. You don’t need to get in touch with a manufacturing contractor, or find seed money, or learn to code.  As long as you understand how to write into a Word processor, this option is available for everyone.

The Products

Educational

This covers a wide range of ideas to work from. If you have a good working knowledge on a subject then you can create a book or course to help others learn it.Products. The Information Product Business

Once interested in a subject people love to learn more about it. Language courses are popular, tutorials on a variety of musical instruments etc. The list is endless once you start researching.

Crafts

Crafting has exploded over the pandemic, as a hobby and to make and sell.

It can cover many subjects from how to knit/crochet, sew, woodworking crafts, jewellery making, a variety of arts, wax, oil, mixed media, watercolour and of course many more.

Any crafter wants to learn more, those with hobbies like to try different crafts. But whether they are starting out or increasing knowledge they look for products to learn from.

Membership sites

Here you have a website with a library of digital products that members pay to access. This is a popular model. You do need to keep it up to date of course and regularly add new products.

Photographs

Businesses want photos that are different and stand out from the crowd. There are sites that offer them for free but the photos get overused and you see them advertising a variety of things. This means they don’t catch people’s attention, let alone hold it long enough to get them to read about your offering.

So new and different photos are always being looked for online.

Graphics

Graphics can be time consuming to create especially at the start when you aren’t used to using the various tools available. So Bloggers/writers and advertisers etc, want original graphics.

Produce good eye-catching graphics and you will be in great demand. Any post on any social media platform has literally seconds to catch someones attention.

A high quality graphic will do that.

I use Canva Pro and find it very good. Try the free version and see how you get on with it. Canva.com

I am not affiliated with Canva at all, I just think its very good..

A mixed website

Another option is to have a variety of digital products on a website. There are a few really big ones like Udemy but smaller ones can attract too. If you have good quality products on popular subjects then customers will return.

The bigger sites can be rather hit and miss with quality as they have such a wide variety of goods and sellers.

How it works as a businessyour business

You have a website and write a blog post regularly to bring traffic to the website. Traffic of course means possible customers for your products. The more value your posts have the more they will be likely to return.

People will often visit several times before buying from you because they want to know that you are trustworthy and produce quality products. Once they buy something that does not match the description, they may well demand a refund and won’t return.

The blog

The more you add content to your website in the form of a blog, the more people will be able to find your website via Google and the more people are likely to share your content on social media as well.

It does take time for Google to find you and to move up the rankings but continuing to post regularly will help the process.

It’s no good adding a few posts and thinking that will do the job, it won’t.

Other ways to sell Digital Products

You can sell a digital product via social media, on forums or even through Amazon (for Kindle).

Another option is to let other people promote your product for you and to simply take a cut of the profits. That is of course, affiliate marketing. A good option if you prefer to keep creating products and don’t want to do the selling yourself.

Conclusion

The Information product business is one that is growing rapidly. With libraries closed still and very few real life courses available, it’s obvious that many turn to the internet to supply what they need. Of course when they realise how easy it is and how instantly available, quite a large amount of those, will see it as the best way to source learning requirements in the future.

So if you have an information product that people want, as long as it gives good value, you have a business.

Good Luck!

7 of the Best Online Business Ideas 2021

7 od the best business ideas 2021

Here we have 7 of the best online business ideas 2021 to get you started. I have more but they will go in another post otherwise it can become too lengthy and boring. Personally, I prefer posts that aren’t too long, that get to the point.

A bit of background

The Pandemic caused many problems in people’s lives besides the obvious one. People were furloughed here in the UK and maybe something similar in other countries, its possible. Those ones found themselves with a lot of time on their hands because they weren’t working.

Then others, lost their jobs, with no way to get another because of continuing restrictions and always the possibility of further lockdowns, which as we know is what happened.

Many big companies went into liquidation. Others moved to internet only selling as it had become so successful thus creating another jobs void.

The 7 BEST Online Business Ideas For 2021

      1. Writer

Writing for others can be well paid once you get established. If you turn out high quality work then you will be in demand for blog content writing. Books is another idea if you are a writer. Become an author by putting your experience in any subject into a digital book. Once you really think about it, there are skills you have learnt from experience, that can help others. write for othersPlus of course there is great demand for fiction. The Pandemic has revived peoples interest in reading, possibly as escapism from being trapped at home for so long.

      2. Infopreneur

Now that sounds good doesn’t it and kind of describes itself.

A lot of people are staying at home and are bored. So they have been learning new skills by doing distance learning. so now Universities are using digital courses right now, although there were online universities before now. There are also very big websites like Udemy that have a huge amount of courses available

There are many new businesses now that sell only courses for a variety of subjects. With so many people still at home this is a good business to get into. Even when things become relatively normal there will always be a place for online learning.

       3. Virtual Assistant

You can gain skills by working in offices or with various companies and they can really help others. This job would involve working for others online, essentially taking on clients, to perhaps manage their social media. With creating posts, responding to comments and helping to grow the accounts.

The virtual assistant can also be used for the day to day tasks that take time, are necessary to do but not what the entrepreneur/business owner, wants to be spending their time on. Depending on what you do, this can be quite a lucrative business, especially with so many more people having a business and working from home now.

       4. Websites

This has become a popular business model. First creating the website and then managing it for a client. virtual assistant and web builderThis works very well apparently in a local area where you are more likely to get to know the client and what they need.

If you get a good hosting site, with excellent security and support, this is an ideal framework for such a business. For this you need to do proper research to see what is on offer. It is worth paying more for quality as this is your business and your clients businesses at stake.

I recommend Wealthy Affiliate because it has the three must haves mentioned and has the bonus of a lot of training available if you get stuck on any aspect. You can check it out for  free HERE! no credit card required. Make note of the amount of websites you can host for the same price.

       5. Graphic Designer

Graphic designers are often in demand for creating book covers. Most businesses want original graphics for their websites whatever it about and also for individual blog posts. Why? Put a free graphic onto Pinterest and the same one will have been used over and over again for a variety of different subjects.  When you add a post to Pinterest it will then show you all pins with similar pictures. Hence the need for something original that will stand out.

From Rasmussen University:

Common graphic designer duties:

  • Meeting with clients or art directors to define the scope of a project
  • Using photo editing software, layout software and digital illustration to create designs
  • Selecting colors, images and typefaces to convey a company’s brand and message
  • Presenting design concepts to clients or art director
  • Applying updates to designs based on stakeholder feedback and opinion
  • Examining final designs to ensure there are no errors before printing or publishing

        6. Blogging

Blogging nowadays conjures up thoughts of the bloggers we hear about the most, that are well known and making lots of money from it. Many people do not consider that they have been doing blogging for years most likely before becoming famous.

There are those that see blogging as easy, trust me, it’s not. It takes a lot of time and effort and probably money too if you don’t enjoy writing and research. It also takes time to create your graphics. There plenty of free pictures available but you tend to find the same ones on every social media platform when you share your post, as I wrote above on Graphic designer.

So pictures will stand out more if they are original or if you make them original with use of text and parts of other pics.

Blogs can be monetised with Adsense, although too many adverts can slow a website down or you can be affiliated with other companies to make money that way.blogger, coach mentoring

You can start a website and blog via any platform. Some are free for a first website but some will charge, the free ones tend to be quite basic and limiting. Do your research first.  You can start with Blogger which is completely free. My first ever blog was on there, I blogged about the crafts and showcased many from the sites I was on. See it HERE!

    7. Coaching

Coaching is very popular now and can be done in a big variety of niches. It isn’t just for the real world.

Types of  coaching:

Personal/Life

Executive

Career

Business

Skills

Performance

Relationship … and so on. Yes, there are apparently more coaches.

So you can see it is a big and very varied field.

Conclusion

What do you think? Do you think these are some of the best or do you have other ideas? These are certainly some of the most common ones.

I must admit there are so many niches in online businesses now as people become more innovative. Whatever you decide to do, you need to make yours a bit different to stand out. It’s important to create your own ‘voice’ with your writing style. That way those visitors that return instantly recognise it as yours.

If you are just starting out in the online business field I wish you much luck.

When you write good articles, it’d be a shame to not share them with people . You can post your articles in your website otherwise you’ll submit them to other sites like e-zines and online publishers.

By submitting your articles to those sites, you give exposure not only to your ideas but also to your website. Simply include a link back to your site or include your information within the resource box. With this, you get exposure and free advertising also .

Submit your articles to popular e-zines and take advantage of their popularity. Other sites who find your article relevant also can link back to you. Thus, you increase your link popularity, which is one among the foremost important strategies within the internet world.

Instead of trying to find other sites that would want to determine reciprocal links together with your site, you’ll simply submit a piece of writing to other sites. Just do not forget to include a link to your site in your resource box. When these websites like and publish your article, you automatically get a link partner.

It is good to have outgoing links that show where you get information from.It also helps to have internal links. These are links that go to other blog posts on your website.

How to Exercise while Working

How to Exercise while Working

Here we have more ways you can exercise while you work from home. These are more for if you are sitting down a lot. Which I have to admit does apply to me. Having done this research on how to exercise while working, I have to say that I intend to get an under desk exercise machine.

So we have looked at standing desks and their health benefits. I also brought a variety here for you to look at. There were also some that did both, sitting and standing.

We looked at office chairs and why it is important to have one that is comfortable.

I also did a post on treadmill desks which are really gaining in popularity in recent years.

Good reasons to get one!

We all know that sitting at a desk all day is not good for our health. A sedentary lifestyle can mean a slower metabolism, obesity and even possible heart disease amongst other things. So anything that helps you get exercise while you work has to be good, don’t you think?

An under desk exercise bike will keep legs moving and increase blood flow. It will gradually strengthen your muscles as you continue and become more proficient with it. Some allow an increase in resistance to help strengthen the legs further.

Then of course exercise helps to increase the metabolism and burn off the food to some degree, so can also help to stay fitter and lose weight.

As you are sitting, there won’t be a lot of pressure on the joints, which is an added bonus for many. Low impact exercise helps to strengthen and improve mobility especially for those with arthritis.

Improve Mental Health

Lack of movement during the day can leave a person feeling sluggish and tired but still end up tossing and turning for ages before dropping off.

Exercise is brilliant for improving mental health as well as physical health. Being more active on a regular basis helps to improve sleep. This in turn also has a good impact upon mental health. Less tired and more active means you feel more upbeat and therefore happier.

It is better still to be out in nature of course but something like these are ideal when you are tied to a desk. Not literally of course!

What do I think?

Personally, I like them all and I think they are a brilliant idea. I have different priced ones here, just to show a small sample of what’s available. I could put loads more on but they tend to be very similar.

I intend to get one myself when I can make up my mind about what to get. I cannot decide whether it would be more comfortable to have the stepper type or the cycle type.

Reviews are mixed as always, with some loving the one they bought and others not happy for various reasons. I have noticed this on pretty much most things, whatever you buy. People are different with different requirements.

I think the style of anything is a personal choice.  While a load of bad reviews will put me off an item, the usual mixed reviews won’t, depending on what is said of course.

What do you think? A good idea or not?

How to Start your Pinterest Journey

Okay, so the last post was all about why you should be using Pinterest for your business. This is a learning curve for me too as despite using the platform for many years, I still know very little about it. So while you learn how to start your Pinterest journey, I too am learning along with you.

Let us Begin!

When you are on the main page Pinterest.com, you can choose to either login to an existing account or to sign up for a new Pinterest account. And the very first option that shows up allows you to create a personal account.

So if you want to use Pinterest just to save some ideas to your boards, go ahead and start creating a personal Pinterest account right here. By the way, for a personal account, Pinterest allows you to use not only an email address to sign up, but also a Facebook account or Gmail account.Your pinterest journey starts here

And I do not recommend using these options for signing up on Pinterest. Because this usually ends up in creation of multiple accounts. Because one day you might try to open Pinterest when you are not logged in to Facebook or Google.

You will insert your email address then to try and log in and Pinterest will create a new account for you without you realising what’s going on. Then you will find yourself going from one to the other, posting stuff to the wrong account and boards and chaos ensues…….. Well…. maybe not that bad but it can be a pain.

So, when you create a Pinterest account, if you plan to use Pinterest for driving traffic to your website, then you should skip all of these options and click on the button to create a business account.

Business account

So you sign up with your email address. Under your profile you can add your business and user name, a bit about yourself and your business.

You can fill in your address and phone number etc if you wish. Address, phone number and email on this section aren’t mandatory. If you fill in your email address under the profile, it will be public. This is also where you add a photo or Logo. Be sure to click on save before moving on to the next part each time.

Then you go down the list filling in the required information. You can also ‘Claim’ your business by linking your website to Pinterest, just follow the steps. Next, add your Instagram and YouTube accounts, if you have them. You can also link an Etsy shop to your account too.

Your home feed will be populated by similar topics that you look at. You can change this by using the Home Feed Tuner to have more pins of subjects you prefer.

Personal Account

If you have a personal account and have now decided that you want to change it to a Business account you can do that quite easily or you can have both.

And all you have to do is go to business.pinterest.com and you will end up on a page where you can create a free business account from your personal account.

Also on this page you will find a wealth of help topics from getting started, to creating pins, advertising and more.

I stumbled across this page once and didn’t find it again until now. Told you this was a journey we are taking together.

Do you Need a Business Account?Business or personal account

The short answer is YES! If you want to use Pinterest for business and commercial purposes, you really HAVE to use a Business account. It’s very important. The main reason you need to use a business account is to comply with Pinterest’s Terms of Service.

You don’t want your account to be closed for using a personal account for business purposes, do you? If you plan to make money from your Pinterest account in ANY way, you should use a business account. Do make sure you follow the guidelines because users have had accounts closed before now.

From Pinterest Terms of Service

  • Pinterest may terminate or suspend your right to access or use Pinterest for any reason with appropriate notice. We may terminate or suspend your access immediately and without notice if we have a good reason, including any violation of our Community Guidelines. Upon termination, you will continue to be bound by Sections 3 and 8 of these Terms.
  • More simply put:
  • Pinterest is provided to you free of charge. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, but we will be reasonable about it.

Benefits of a Business Account

Another benefit of having a business account is that you will get access to special features and services that are available only for business accounts. It’s Pinterest Analytics and Pinterest Ads.

So in Pinterest Analytics, you can see your Audience Insights. You can check what people who follow you are interested in reading about, how your site doing on Pinterest and in the Advertising section you can run some adverts.

Pinterest adverts cost less than on other platforms and seem to perform better from what other people have said. This is business people that use adverts on all social media platforms as well as search engine ads.

Just starting out though you don’t need to worry about adverts. It will be enough to get up and running for now.

BoardsPinterest Boards. How to Start your Pinterest Journey

To save pins you need to create boards. If you go and look on other accounts you will see that they all have separate boards, titled in various ways, where they pin their own and other people’s pins.

This can either be done on the Pinterest page or as you save a pin. Pinterest has an instruction page especially for the purpose of aiding you. Click HERE!

Round Up

So we have learnt? That Pinterest is a Search Engine rather than a social media platform. We have discovered that it is so popular because it is very visual and that it is growing rapidly.

If you looked at the facts and figures from the previous post, you will understand why this is becoming a popular platform for businesses.

So, based on what you have discovered so far, do you now know how to start your Pinterest journey? And the biggest question of course is Will You?

If you already have Pinterest, are you encouraged to do more with it?

I am, I shall continue to learn more and learn better ways to use Pinterest, then come back and tell you my findings.

Why We Should Use Pinterest for Business

Why We Should Use Pinterest For Business

This post began because I wanted to know more about Pinterest. I have seen some interesting videos about Pinterest lately and learnt how it can grow your business traffic. It piqued my interest enough to really want to know why we should use Pinterest for business.

I tried a different way to create a pin described in a video, not all the detail was there of course because teaching it was this couple’s business. But I tried from the bit I did learn and yes, it was a success. Well not like theirs of course but I quite quickly got a few pins and impressions. Enough to impress me, if no one else.

I am going on the assumption that you have already started your business. If not read HERE!

A Pinterest account

I am assuming that you already have a Pinterest business account! If not, why not?

Perhaps you have a personal page? If so it is easy to create a business page as an offshoot or just make a separate page.  Its not hard to do, I created mine years ago, when I knew very little about anything and managed perfectly well.

In the intervening years though I have added stuff in fits and starts without really paying it much attention.

What Changed?

I joined a platform called Wealthy Affiliate. I joined on a free membership and was so impressed with everything available, training, hosting, community etc, that I signed up for a half price month to look inside and then for a year. That was 2 years ago. Anyway, I digress. Part of the training is about social media. It made me go and look at my Pinterest account that I hadn’t even added anything to in about 18 months, maybe longer. I had not ever paid attention to the numbers and that was a shock.

3.2k followers, that was a surprise! I also had 13.2k monthly views! This on a page I barely looked at. A possible traffic source I was not only overlooking but totally ignoring.  Even after discovering all that, I am still a bit sporadic with my attention to this extremely useful business tool. I have been better but I admit, not that much.

Now it seems that everywhere I look there are things about Pinterest. I think the Universe is trying to tell me something.

A Few Interesting Facts about Pinterest

Renewed interest means I want to know if it will be worth the investment of my time. I want more traffic and sitting back waiting for it doesn’t cut it. I need to be proactive!

So on to the Facts

Pinterest has grown rapidly and has generated an additional 100 million users over the last year. At the start of 2020 Pinterest had about 320 million active users per month. And now their user base has now increased to 459 million monthly active users.

We all know why there is such a huge increase. The number of users would have gone up anyway as Pinterest is growing but the Covid-19 Pandemic has made everything online explode. This also means that Pinterest now has more monthly active users than both Twitter and Snapchat combined.

Did you know that Pinterest is not a Social Media platform? It is actually a Search Engine!

A very large amount of Pinners use the mobile app, a whopping 85%! Who knew?

Half of the users live in the U.S.

Around 50% of Pinterest users live in the United States, so in the rest of the world there is also a large audience actively using Pinterest to save content, products and ideas.

240 billion Pins

That is a lot of pins by users of Pinterest over the last 11 years it has been in business, an average of 533 pins per pinner.pinterest is growing rapidly

Pinners spend 80% more

Another amazing fact is that users spend 80% more in retail than consumers who don’t use Pinterest.

If you pay attention to Pinterest demographics, you see that 49% of U.S. users’ income is more than $100,000 a year. The higher income means the ability to spend more on products on the platform.

Projects from pins

Pinterest has always been well known for DIY projects, recipes, gorgeous home and fashion pictures as well as handmade crafts. For years now, users have had fun trying out the different crafts and projects they’ve seen and saved.

Which is why Pinterest then added a “Tried It” button to Pins for users.

That’s how the Pinterest is able to measure and work out that 98% of users, have tried something they’ve seen on this social network.

So what do the facts mean to me?

The first thing that springs to mind is that Pinterest is full of people actively looking to buy. They have interests but also look outside their interests for something new to create, to design and make, for themselves and their homes.

It means I no longer think its for people who have spare time to waste. I know it’s for people looking with a purpose. My daughter looked for inspiration for doing up her home, other people look for ideas for crafts to make. Some are looking for work opportunities. Still more are searching for clothing and shoes that are different, every day items and holiday wardrobes.

Pinterest for Business

So how does it work? Essentially its a digital pin board where we pin items that are of interest to us. We create our own pins and save other peoples pins, that we feel are relevant, to our boards.

Take a bride planning her big day: She may be looking at not only dresses but venues and how to dress a venue to her taste. She wants ideas that will make her wedding different to that of her friends. Her Chief Bridesmaid/Maid of Honour might also be searching for ideas for a hen party with a difference, a gift, helping with the dress search etc.

Now that is just 2 people from one wedding, that’s without all the other leading players and more minor ones. Then multiply that by the amount of  weddings there are in a year!  That’s a lot of business going on right there. Just one subject!

Is YOUR business aimed at Weddings or more specifically Brides? Look at the possibilities available to you via Pinterest.

Why are they doing the majority of searching on Pinterest? Because it is visual. A page full of pictures is so much more interesting than a page of listings (writing). WOW!!

Why We Should Use Pinterest for Business

Much of this is occurring to me as I research and write this. I have clearly not given Pinterest enough thought at all. I have wasted a valuable resource all these years.

If you want to drive a ton of free traffic to your website, you can’t afford not to use pinterest. I have been hearing more and more that most traffic to websites, comes from Pinterest.

Below is a quick round up of the main platforms people use and how long the post, pin or tweet will last.make money online

Social Media Posts

Pinterest: The lifespan of a Pin is much longer than any social media post on any other platform. Why? Because it can still appear months later when certain words are searched for.

Twitter: 18 minutes says the data. That though I think, depends upon whether it gets retweeted, by whom and how often. A tweet that you pin to your profile will last as long as it is pinned there. Being time poor most retweeters will use the pinned post rather than search for other tweets of yours.

Facebook: 6 hours but that depends on post interaction. Most impressions will occur within the first couple of hours. If other people comment on your post then it may be shown to a few more people. Your reach is no longer about the amount of ‘Likers’ or ‘Followers’ because Facebook limited the reach of businesses to get them to pay for adverts.

Instagram: The data varies on this one but many say 24 to 48 hours. I do post to Instagram but don’t know that much about it as yet. Like all of them though, it will depend upon interaction to determine how long it lasts in the public eye.

A few benefits of using pinterest for your business

Pinterest is one of the sites that gets regularly listed through search engines such as google.

Initially, pins have much longer because they are still searchable and also you can reuse a pin over and over again, which makes it so much simpler to market because you’re, not spending as much time and effort into constantly creating new content.

Most pinterest users are on pinterest for purchase.

Users are three times more likely to click over to a brand’s website from Pinterest. Most social media platforms are actually designed to keep you on the platform and discourage external links, whereas Pinterest is actually designed to have your website discovered.

What do you think?

Now there are, of course, many more benefits to using Pinterest for your business, but that will be for another post. Next time we will go into the getting started and setting up of a Pinterest account.

I already have a few Pinterest pages having been told by those ‘wiser’ that its a good thing but the more I learn the more I am unsure on that front.

I am amazed at the amount I have learnt already just from researching this starter post. I am looking forward to gaining a lot of knowledge to help me increase the traffic to my businesses.

See you in the next post!
